This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession Daniel J. Levitin Totally compelling study on why music has such a powerful effect on the brain. This was my subway read (and always in my back pocket) for a solid week. Loved it.

Quicksilver: The Baroque Cycle (Baroque Cycle 1) Neal Stephenson Uhoh, I've begun to read it, the story which will probably tire my eyes and brain of reading. Nevertheless I simply must read it and so far I have NOT been disappointed - this is incredible.
